In the world of makeup, your lipstick is like the cherry on top of your sundae. It is that one element that ties all different makeup elements together. With the right shade of lipstick, your makeup look will stand out. But when you choose the wrong lipstick shade, it ruins everything. Applying your lipstick wrong can be just as disastrous too. As common as it is, not every woman has mastered the art of wearing lipstick. Read on to find tips on how to wear lipstick like a pro.
Prepare Your Lips
One of the secrets to making your lipstick last is to set it properly. You have to get rid of any loose skin on the surface of your lips. Just as you would exfoliate your skin before applying lotion, make sure you do the same on your lips too. Exfoliate your lips gently to get rid of any loose skin cells and keep it supple. You can use a lip mask or hydrating lip balm.
Use Lip Primer
Just as you would use primer on your face to make it last, it is important that you prime your lips too. For your lips, a foundation will help to allow the lipstick formula to set in beautifully. Using a primer also helps the lipstick to maintain its colour regardless of temperature changes.
Your lips have a natural white contour that you can line to emphasize its shape and curve. Applying a lip liner is easy because you simply have to follow the outline of your lips. There are no hard and fast rules when applying a lip liner – you can start from left to right or vice versa. When applying a lip liner, choose one that is the exact or complementary match to the colour of your lipstick. That way, the lip liner is not evident. In addition to emphasizing the contour of your lips, a lip liner can prevent the bleeding of your lipstick.
Dust it off
Apply a light dust of powder onto your lips. This will give extra staying power for your lipstick.
Put on Lipstick
At this point, you may ow apply your lipstick. Use a lip brush to ensure even application. To make it last for several hours, dust off the lipstick with translucent powder. This will give a matte finish to your lips for longer lasting hold. If there are any smudges, use a Q-tip to remove them.
