Bringing Back Shine on Damaged Hair

All women have those secret desires of looking like those models in shampoos and hair products commercials. It is all but normal to feel that way, though, particularly when you have damaged hair. And while damage will take a lot of work to repair in order to restore the natural state of the hair, you can incorporate hair care and styling methods to promote shine.

shiny hair

The first step to achieving lustre and shine is to promote healthy hair. When your hair is healthy, it has the ability to produce that deep and natural lustre. A lot of modern hair care products in the market give instant shine by smoothing out the hair cuticle, allowing every strand to reflect light more effectively.

Adapting healthy hair care habits can also do simple steps to promote brilliant shine on hair. The age-old myth of cold water rinse is not a myth anymore. It has been proven to improve shine without the need to use any product at all. The contact with cold water prompts the hair cuticles to close up so they look smoother on the surface. There is no need to torture yourself with a cold water shower though – just a cold blast of water for your final rinse will do the trick.

Still in the subject of proper hair care, the right shampoo can make all the difference in your effort to giving a natural shiny finish to hair. The best shampoos for added shine are ones that come with conditioning agent and designed to lock in moisture. Getting enough moisture is critical in maintaining the shine of your hair. However, it is also important to stress that you must refrain from using blow dryer post-shampoo because the heat can drive away the shine from your hair.

If you want a homemade remedy, you can also try preparing a vinegar rinse for optimum shine on your hair. Vinegar has been proven to aid in closing hair cuticles for a more effective light reflecting result. Using a vinegar rinse on your hair can therefore provide the same effects as having a cold water rinse. Simply pour a small amount of vinegar into a bottle spray and apply it onto wet hair. Allow the vinegar to stay on your hair for a few minutes before rinsing it off. Do this several times weekly for maximum shine and lustre.

How do you keep hair looking shiny even after getting damaged?
