Hair styling tools are essential in achieving the prime health and beauty of your tresses. But as much as you invest time to care for your hair, you need to allot the same amount of time to care for your tools as well. After all, if you want to look your best, you have to use the best tools for the job.

Below are some of the basic cleaning and caring tips you have to keep in mind to keep your hair styling products and/or tools in tip-top shape:

Hair Brush – This hair styling product is the prime candidate for build-up of dirt and oil. However, they are also the likely candidate for transferring dirt back to your hair. You have to religiously clean your hair brush everyday to prevent this from happening. Use a comb or fork to take out any hair strands that get tangled into the bristles. Then, prepare a mixture of a hot soapy water that has been added with a dish washing soap. Place the brush into the mixture and wait for at least 5 minutes before taking it out and rinsing it. This will loosen up any dirt and oil that have built up in between the bristles and then scrub them off to finish.

Curling and Flat Iron – Cleaning these hair styling products should not be a problem, but it is a must. The first thing you need to do is unplug these items when you are done using them. Then, take a cotton ball or cloth and pour in rubbing alcohol. Use that to wipe off the surface of the curling or flat iron. Another cleaning technique for styling iron would be to mix water with baking soda to form a paste. Instead of using rubbing alcohol, you can use the paste to clean the surface of the iron. Wait until the tool is completely dry before you can use it again. Also, store them in a heat-resistant bag to keep them safe after use.

Scissors – If you are one of those people who like to trim your own hair in between your haircut schedule, it is a must to care and maintain your scissors. Sharp scissors are a must because working with dull scissors can put your hair at risk suffering from shoddy trims and damaged ends. Use a wet wash cloth to clean the blades (preferably, use hot water to wet the cloth). This will remove any oil buildup on the blade to restore its sharpness.

Hair Dryer – You have to keep your hair dryer from dust and dirt because these can cause your hair to weigh down. Use a soft bristled-brush or nail brush to clean out any of these particles off of your hair dryer. Also, make sure to focus your cleaning on the filter because this is where dust and dirt could easily clog up. Use hot water to wet a washcloth and use that to wipe off the surface and inside of the dryer. Let it dry before you use the hair dryer again.

You invest a lot of money in buying the highest quality hair styling products and tools. Therefore, it is only but necessary for you to take good care of them. It will also enable you to get more use out of them so that you can keep your hair looking its best.
