The first trick that you can use to conceal those dark roots is to create volume in the area. This can be done with a little teasing. You can use your comb to tease the hair around the roots and the teasing action will help to get about 1-3 inches of lift. If you do not know the proper way of teasing your own hair, make sure you read this.
In order to get maximum effect from teasing, though, it is important that the hair has been washed and conditioned properly. Use a blow dryer and turn hair upside down. The gravitational effect will also aid in the process of getting more volume and lifting hair off the roots. If you want, you can use a root lifting product as well.
Another practical tip involves the use of a baby or face powder (whichever is handy). An important word of caution though: this trick will only work for those with a naturally light shade of hair. Take a small amount of baby powder and sprinkle around the root area. Wait for the powder to be absorbed into the scalp. Make sure to use just the right amount of powder or you’ll end up looking like you have dandruff.
Meanwhile, those with a darker shade of hair can use face powder as alternative to baby powder. Again, you have to be extremely cautious when choosing the right shade of pressed powder that will suit your hair colour, as well.
You can also prepare homemade mixture that you can use on your hair. A popular DIY recipe involves the use of lemon combined with a few drops of coconut oil. Apply this mixture directly into the scalp. Wrap your hair in a shower cap and leave it on for at least half an hour. You can also go out and expose your hair to sun for a little bit because the sun’s rays can help speed up this process. When the time is up, simply rinse it off with cold water.
The final trick that you can try to conceal dark roots is with the help of dry shampoo. Apply the dry shampoo to the roots and make sure that it is saturated. This will create volume and lift, while tinted dry shampoo can also inject some color into the roots.
