How to Look After Your Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are one of the most popular accessories used on hair. In fact, even celebrities swear by it because it helps to add instant volume to your hair and also provides additional length so you can do all kinds of hairstyles with it. Depending on where you buy it from, most hair extensions are created to look like the actual human form so they appear natural when used on your hair and it is hardly noticeable that you are using one.

Due to the important role that hair extensions play when it comes to providing more styling options, you need to protect your investment as well. You can enhance your locks by maintaining and looking after your hair extensions. Here are some tips that you should always keep in mind:

• Seek advice from a professional stylist about the best kind of brush to use on hair extensions. Even though a lot of them are made from 100% human hair, they can be a little too sensitive from harsh brushing and bristles.

• To be sure, go for natural, soft bristled brushes and use your fingers to assist in putting strands in order with every stroke. This can help prevent knots and tangles from forming.

• If you need to tie your hair extensions in a ponytail, always use hair elastics because they are secure without pulling at your hair too harshly.

• In addition to the above tip, use extra caution when styling your hair extensions in an updo. Avoid buns or updos that are too tight. Hair extensions are designed to hang down so these styling methods can cause damage over time.

• If you are hitting the gym, make sure that you use enough cover or braid your extensions to ensure they are protected.

• Choose shampoos made with gentle formula when washing your hair extensions. Also, refrain from rubbing too much as you can cause the strands to loosen up.

• Heat styling is a major no-no when it comes to styling with hair extensions. If you must use hot tools, then stick with a moderate heat setting. Using heat protection products is also recommended.
