Hair elasticity is one of the simplest yet most compelling ways to determine the health status of your hair. It is measured by the extent with which hair can be stretched while being able to go back to its natural state prior to the process of stretching. Experts believe that wet hair can reach up to 50% of stretch while dry hair can only be stretched up to 20%.
There are three general classifications to a hair’s elasticity level: low, normal, and high. Both normal and high elasticity are the best kinds of hair to work with because they can be styled using a wet roller set and other heat styling tools. On the flip side, a low elasticity hair is difficult to curl because the strands will not follow the wave pattern easily. In addition, it also loses that wave pattern fairly quickly. If that is not enough, low elastic hair can be susceptible to breakage.

Several factors can contribute to making hair lose its natural elastic potential. However, hair care experts attribute that to over-processing of hair such as the use of chemical products or heat styling tools like flat iron, curling iron, and many more. These tools and products will have a cumulative effect on the hair making it more prone to damage by losing its natural elasticity.
Before you delve deep into the restorative efforts for hair elasticity, it is important to note that there is no true restoration to be expected here. Once hair is damaged, it is damaged. You can use restorative products and hair care methods but all of these efforts can only repair the chemical bonds in the hair. True restoration can only come as a result of your efforts to make the hair healthy, trimming out the damaged portions of hair, and growing out new hair.
To enhance the appearance of hair and add suppleness, here are some tips to try:
• Use a keratin or vegetable protein reconstructor on your hair. Leave it on your hair on the specified time on the instructions, which can range from 2 minutes to an hour depending on the strength of the product. Thoroughly rinse it after.
• Use a moisturising conditioner. If in case you are using hair reconstructor, it is best to undergo deep conditioning treatment instead.
• If possible, air dry hair instead of using hot tools. These tools can contribute to causing further damage to hair.
