Adding texture to your hair is a great way to add volume when styling your hair. At the same time, it provides added grip when you want to try on different hairstyles, especially updos and braids. Scrunching is a great technique that you can use to give hair that much needed texture. If you can learn the art of scrunching, you can save your hair from tons of heat styling and be able to achieve a more natural look for your waves.
Scrunching your hair into a waxy texture can be done with clean or dirty hair. But if you opt to work with dirty hair, make sure to use dry shampoo so it is easier to handle your hair.
Start working on your hair about 6 inches away from the roots. Mist it with a little bit of water. This process will help swell up your hair follicles a little bit so you can get instant texture. Then, twist your hair using your hands and leave it as is for 3-5 minutes.
As soon as you can see waves start to form, apply medium to strong hold hair spray. When you have finished applying the hair spray, scrunch your hair some more to make it more tousled and encourage more formation of waves.
Extra styling tip: Spray some hairspray onto the tip of your fingers. Then, use your fingers to create a circular massaging motion on your hair and scalp. This will dramatically boost volume!
If you are starting to feel that your hair feels a bit stringy, wait for it to dry completely. When it is dry, scrunch it one more time. This will soften the whole look and keep your curls or waves from being too stiff. You can help prevent frizz by applying a little bit of hair oil (make sure you regulate the amount you use to keep it from becoming too heavy).
