Tips for Fighting Hair Product Buildup

Hair care products are bountiful in the market. There is a product designed for every hair problem and hair type. If you wanted to get maximum results, you need to use these products on a daily or regular basis, depending on the need. However, there is a downside to using hair care products too often, especially when you do not give extra attention to clarifying your hair and scalp after – it can cause extreme damage over time! Make sure that you know how to fight hair product buildup to ensure that you can maintain quality hair for longer, even if you had to use styling products regularly.

Choosing Right Hair Product For You

Few women realize that the wrong product for their hair type can result to the products sticking on their hair and scalp. Hence, you need to start by looking closely into what products are best for your hair type and scalp condition. If you feel like you have no idea, a good place to start is your hairstylist. They are the ones familiar with your hair and can make recommendations on the right product you can use.

Putting the Right Amount

This is an obvious cause of product buildup – excessive amount of hair styling products. Naturally, your hair will only be able to hold so many products and too much can cause irritation in the long run. Pay close attention to the suggested dosage in your hair care product label and follow it conscientiously.

Use of Clarifying Shampoo

A clarifying shampoo is designed to give your hair a detox. It is meant to remove any product residue or dirt that has accumulated over time. Make sure that you limit your use of a clarifying shampoo once a month or weekly (for heavy buildup only) to remove those residues off of your hair and scalp. Please note that these shampoo formulas are extremely acidic when compared to regular shampoos, which is why you need to limit your use of them.

Other Product Buildup Removal Techniques

You can also try out home remedies to get rid of product buildup resulting from excessive use of hair styling products. In fact, these homemade remedies are so easy that you can find the items you need at your own kitchen!

You can use baking soda, which is one of the most effective homemade remedies against product buildup. You can pour a tablespoon of baking soda into a container and then add the same amount of shampoo you would normally use when washing your hair. Combine both with a spoon and make sure it is thoroughly incorporated. Another approach would be to apply baking soda into your hair when washing it, then rinsing as you normally would.

Apple cider vinegar is also an effective product that you can use for this purpose. Wash your hair as usual, then use a mixture of water and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar as a final rinse.
