What’s the difference between hot and strip wax?

Hot wax is the thick wax that is used generally on smaller or sensitive areas of the body (such as the underarm or bikini area). Meanwhile, strip wax is a honey-like substance used for waxing larger areas of the skin such as the legs or arms.

Is there a specific type of wax to use for different parts of the body?

Strip wax is best used on the following areas: legs, arms, back or tummy. Use hot wax for the underarms, face, neck, buttocks, bikini and for Brazilian wax.

How do I prepare the skin before waxing?

You should exfoliate the skin 24 hours before waxing. Use an exfoliating mitt to gently but effectively cleanse the skin. The remaining hair should be at least 2 cm in length to make it easier to remove them when waxing. It is also recommended that you check for contra-indications before application, especially for those with sensitive skin types.

What is the ideal temperature when using hot wax?

The ideal temperature for using hot wax is 55 to 65 degrees and up to 70 degrees for strip wax. For at-home waxing kit, you will often have a wax pot that you can use to attain the right temperature level on your wax. Always read the instruction to ensure that you are following the correct procedure.

What are the post-waxing skin care procedures?

Use moisturizing lotion and wax oil onto the skin after waxing. Avoid using a tanning product at least 24 hours following your waxing session. Also, you should not apply perfume on the area for at least 24 hours.

What do I do if the area being waxed shows some redness?

Use a cold compress or ice pack and leave it on the area developing redness for a few minutes.

How long will the wax last?

It depends on the brand that manufactured the wax; however, most waxing products last for up to a year.

Is trimming recommended before waxing?

Yes, especially if the area has very long hair. Trim to about 2-3 cm in length for easier waxing.
