Isn’t it disheartening that you spend lots of money on colouring your hair, and then see it fade away during winter? You’re not alone. A lot of women face the dilemma of hair shade fading during the winter months.
There are several factors that contribute to making your hair colour fade faster than usual during winter. One is the lack of sun exposure. Your hair needs vitamin D from the sun’s rays to keep the colour vibrant and looking healthy; without it, your tresses can become lack luster and the colour dull. Meanwhile, the dry indoor heated air during winter time can also make your hair strands weak and lifeless, while hair colour can disperse quickly if you expose it to heat from styling tools.

Regular visit to the salon is required if you want to maintain your hair colour during winter. However, it can get very expensive if you had to regularly visit the salon so you need to take the following measures to stretch the life of your colour in-between salon visits:
• Use hair products for colour treated hair. There are several of these products in the market and you simply have to select the right brand or product for you. Using other shampoos and conditioners not designed for colour care can contribute to stripping colour faster. If possible, go for sulfate-free shampoos as well.
• The process of colouring your hair strips off the protective cuticle layer on each strand to allow penetration of the colour. Thus, never forget to use heat protection spray on your hair prior to styling it with hot tools.
• Use a color extending shampoo when washing. As the name implies, this product helps to lock in the colour pigments in your hair to keep the shade looking vibrant for longer.
• Apply hydrating serum on your hair. This will help to combat the cool and dry winter air that contributes to faster fading of colour.
• Undergo gloss hair treatment. This particular treatment adds more depth to the colour of your hair, which makes it a go-to treatment for addressing dull colour during winter.
• Make sure your hair is completely dry before you go out during winter. The freezing temperature can cause your hair to freeze (if not completely dry), thus making it more prone to breakage and colour damage.
